The Cincinnati Bengals released QB Andy Dalton today and rumors are flying that he will be a perfect fit join the Patriots.

Twitter is a blaze with lots of talk and rumors as well as on ESPN, NBC Sports, Yahoo Sports and the list goes on and on.  The Bengals had the 1st pick in last week’s NFL draft and took LSU QB Joe Burrow leaving Dalton the odd man out.

It was a surprise to many that the Pats did not draft a QB during the 7 rounds of the draft, choosing to sign a couple of undrafted free agents after the draft was put to bed.  That move has lead to a lot of speculation that Bill Belichick was willing to into the season with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer.

The Dalton lead Bengals went 2-11 last season.  He threw for 3,494 yards with 16 TDs and threw 14 picks.

Dalton was set to cash a check from the Bengals for $17.5 million this season.  He would likely sign to another team at a reduced rate.

The red headed QB is 32 years old and has been in the NFL for nine years and has been in the Pro Bowl 3 times.  Many with knowledge of the game have speculated that Dalton would fit in well with the current Patriots offense.

Andy is likely sitting by his phone today waiting for Bill to call.
