If you ask anyone in the Pittsfield area, “Where can I get a great cheesesteak sandwich?” – They will likely tell you BiggDaddy’s Philly Steak House. However, if you’ve had one recently, savor the flavor. Xavier Jones, otherwise known as “BiggDaddy” announced via Facebook Wednesday that he has closed the doors for good at his 137 North Street eatery in Pittsfield. Jones told the Berkshire News Network that he made the decision recently to close the shop and did so this past Saturday. When asked what led to the decision to close, he made no bones about and simply said “no business.” He did say that the shop was busy early on, however.

“It was a great and stressful experience. It had its ups and downs, good and bad moments. And I’m grateful.” -Xavier Jones

Jones moved to Stockbridge from Philadelphia after having graduated from Le Cordon Bleu, a culinary school in Pittsburgh, before moving to Pittsfield where he has lived for the past 17 years. He opened his first Berkshire location in Adams in January of 2017 before deciding to move the business to Pittsfield in June of last year. Jones stated on Facebook, “At this time, it’s in our best interest to close the doors for good.” When reflecting on his decision, he was thankful for his supporters and said “It was a great and stressful experience. It had its ups and downs, good and bad moments. And I’m grateful.”

When asked what his plans are for the future, Jones said that he has been the Banquet Chef at the Deerfield Inn, in Deerfield, MA for the past couple of weeks and has no other immediate plans. Referring to his good fortune to have that position, he said: “God don’t close a door without opening another one for you.”
