UPDATE:  Lonnie Durfee has been ordered to be held without bail until his dangerousness hearing, which is scheduled for Friday. Durfee pleaded not guilty to a charge of burning personal property.

The Dalton man accused of setting fire to hay bales that had been painted in support of the Biden-Harris campaign admitted to a police officer he burned the sign because he "disagreed with the political stance it represented," according to The Berkshire Eagle.

Lonnie Durfee, 49, was arrested by Dalton Police over the weekend in connection with the fire and charged with burning personal property. According to reports prepared by Sgt. Christopher Furlong, Durfee told police he used motor oil and gasoline to torch the hay structure. He also admitted to burning a Biden/Harris lawn sign outside a home in his neighborhood. Durfee went on to tell investigators he was sorry for his actions and offered to pay the estimated at about $2,000. Reports noted that the man said he was distraught over the recent death of his son in a motorcycle crash in New Jersey

Durfee is due in Central Berkshire District Court today to be arraigned on his charges. First Assistant District Attorney Richard Dohoney told the newspaper that the state will press for a dangerousness hearing, citing the fact that Durfee was also arrested in June 2014 in Pittsfield on charges of assault and battery, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.
