Were you aware that the City of Pittsfield has a very cool Compost Bin Program that can save you money and get you on your way to becoming a composter? Pittsfield City Hall posted on its Facebook page today some details about the program that is available to everyone in the city at an affordable price.

Just in case you are not familiar with the process, composting is the process of recycling organic matter such as food scraps and leaves into a valuable fertilizer that you can use for planting gardens, flower beds, and more. Whatever grows eventually breaks down, and composting bins simply help that process along at a much faster speed.

Through the city initiative, specialized compost bins which normally cost $59 are available to you at the reduced cost of only $25 per unit. According to the city’s post, the average household can compost between 500 and 1,000 pounds of organic material every year using one of these bins.

You can learn more about the program HERE

Check out this diagram that shows the composting bin used in this program. It points out all the features of the bin and other important information about how they work.

The bins, according to the graphic can be put together in about 10 minutes or so and can save you money. They are made right here in the USA and have a lifetime warranty. The bin size is adjustable and can accommodate up to 24 cubic feet of material.

If you are like me, you had no idea that this was available from the city. Hopefully, local residents will take advantage of this very cool program!
