With a little over a week away from his 10-year anniversary of leading the Pittsfield Police Department, Michael Wynn is now officially in as the permanent Chief of Police.

According to iBerkshires.com, Pittsfield Mayor Linda Tyer offered Wynn the position, which he accepted. Chief Wynn began with the department back in 1995 as a patrol officer, becoming a supervisor thereafter, before becoming the administrative captain in 2007. He was named acting Chief in 2009.

It has been a long time coming for Wynn, and Mayor Tyer is very confident in her decision to make the role permanent.

"He really does exemplify leadership. He is clearly experienced," Tyer told iBerkshires.com on Wednesday. ""I feel strongly about the commitments he makes in the community."

Wynn has been a pillar of the community, becoming a part of many organizations in the area, including Berkshire Community College, Boys and Girls Club, Downtown Pittsfield Inc. and more.

The Chief has also been a part of one of the fan-favorite moments in Berkshire County radio. In 2015, Wynn, along with fellow Pittsfield Police officers and friends, sang karaoke during the "Cause For Paws" radiothon to raise money for the Berkshire Humane Society. The group sang a phenomenal rendition of Inner Circle's "Bad Boys", raising several hundred dollars for the annual event.
