Pittsfield Police Chief Michael Wynn announced through the department's Facebook page that the Pittsfield Police Department will be taking part in Nation Night Out tomorrow night. National Night Out is a community-police-raising event hosted by local police departments across the country. It is designed to bring local families together with local police to build trust, communication and develop relationships...especially with kids.
National Night Out is held on the first Tuesday in August each year. Last year was an exception. Chief Wynn posted that the department did not have enough time to set up a black party, but designed a "party convoy" that will visit Pittsfield Parks between 5 to 8 pm.
According to Chief Wynn, officers will hitting local parks with the department's Motor Unit, Off Road Unit, the K-9 unit and others. They be carrying treats and snacks for kids and some PD giveaways. The plan is to hit Durant Park, Carrie Bak Park, Wahconah Park at the playground, Tucker Park, Dorothy Amos Park, The Common, Springside Park at Rotary Playground, the Skate Park, and Deming. We're a little late to the party, but we've come up with a plan to participate in this year's National Night Out, and re-introduce this great program to our community.
A resident asked us to participate and we didn't have enough time to plan a block party, so we're going to take a little party convoy on the road. On Tuesday, 8/3, from 5-8 PM, we'll be taking a small convoy of special unit representatives, and we'll visit several of our City Parks.
We'll be carrying some treats and snacks, plus some PD giveaways to share with the kids. Our plan is to spend 20-25 minutes at each Park, then proceed to the next one. You can check out the Motor Unit, the Off-road Vehicle Unit, K-9, Traffic and more.
This plan is still fluid and under development. As of today, the plan is to visit Durant Park, Carrie Bak Park, Wahconah Park at the playground, Tucker Park, Dorothy Amos Park, The Common, Springside Park at Rotary Playground, the Skate Park, and Deming.
