Here's the Official Word From the City of Pittsfield and the Mayor's Office:

Please be advised that due to the impending winter storm, a snow emergency has been declared for the City of Pittsfield beginning 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, through 7 p.m. Friday, Dec 18.

During this time, residents are asked to use off-street parking. If unable to park off-street, please follow alternate side parking regulations:

• Between 7 p.m. on Wednesday and 7 p.m. on Thursday: Vehicles may be parked on the EVEN side of the street.

• Between 7 p.m. on Thursday and 7 p.m. on Friday: Vehicles may be parked on the ODD side of the street.

• ALL existing and signed parking regulations remain active.

Non-permitted vehicles are prohibited from parking or standing in any open municipal parking lot between the hours of 12 a.m. and 7 a.m.

As a reminder, all sidewalks adjacent to one’s property must be cleaned within 24 hours of the completion of the storm. Handicap ramps adjacent to property are included in the city code and also must be cleared within 24 hours.

It is a violation of city ordinance to plow or otherwise dispose of snow from one’s property onto city streets and sidewalks.

Please dig out any fire hydrant on or adjacent to your property. It helps keep you and your neighborhood safe.

Sand piles

City sand piles are available for residential use at three locations around the city: Barker Road Fire Station, Peck’s Road Fire Station, and Root Place off of Elm Street.

Sand will be available for pickup by Pittsfield residents for their own personal use throughout the winter season. Residents are requested to limit their pickups to 50 pounds (one 5-gallon pail) per visit.

Users of these piles are requested to report suspected abuse (loading of pickup trucks, etc.) to the DPS Highway Division office at 499-9314.

The City of Pittsfield thanks you for your patience and please stay safe.
