Pulling Over Speeder In Adams Leads to OUI & Gun Charges *Update

Subject: M/V Stop leads to OUI & Gun Charges

An officer assigned to a proactive patrol assignment conducted a motor vehicle stop at approximately midnight this morning February 2, 2020 for a speeding violation on Commercial Street.
After a brief investigation, and a series of standardized field sobriety tests the officer determined that the operator was under the influence of intoxicating liquor and placed him under arrest.
As a result, in accordance with Melanie’s Law the vehicle was to be towed and an inventory of the vehicle was to be completed in accordance with policies and procedures.
Another officer who was on scene to assist with the inventory of the vehicle located a Taurus G2S 9mm semiautomatic handgun with an obliterated serial number within the vehicle. The firearm was loaded with one round in the chamber. At this time the passenger of the vehicle was also placed under arrest.
Both male parties; Pittsfield residents were arrested and transported back to the Adams Police Department for booking.
Both occupants of the vehicle are currently being held at the Adams Police Department and will await arraignment at Northern Berkshire District Court on unlawful possession of firearms charges and other related charges pending the completion of the investigation.
