Press Release From the Pittsfield Police Department:

On Wednesday June 17, the Pittsfield Police Department was made aware of several videos circulating on social media that allege to depict an alligator in Onota Lake by the Dan Casey Memorial Drive causeway. The authenticity of the videos, their location, or what type of amphibian/reptile appears in the footage is questionable. No reports from first-hand witnesses have been received.

Animal Control Officers did respond to Dan Casey Memorial Drive on Wednesday evening to view the area and speak to citizens who had been fishing for a lengthy period of time, with nothing unusual being reported. Nonetheless, our Animal Control Unit is working with Mass Wildlife to monitor the situation. If a report of a legitimate sighting is received, PPD and Mass Wildlife personnel will coordinate a response and take appropriate action.
