A Sheffield man was finally arrested after fleeing from Great Barrington police officers who were responding to a fight in progress at the Main Street Cumberland Farms yesterday morning. Several police departments along with a K-9 unit tracked him down.

From a news report by WTEN/News 10 Albany, Great Barrington police were called to a fight at the Cumberland Farms on Main Street at approximately 8:53 a.m. Monday morning. While investigating the incident, it was discovered that 35-year-old Mitchell Tyler of Sheffield was a possible witness to the fight.

Subsequently, police learned that Tyler currently has an outstanding warrant for his arrest by the state of Connecticut. While officers made the attempt to arrest Tyler, he took off and ran through the woods that are behind the Cumberland Farms.

Police officers from neighboring areas including Egremont, Stockbridge, West Stockbridge, and New Marlborough, as well as the Massachusetts State Police, joined Great Barrington police and assisted in the search.

They set up a perimeter and made their search for Tyler in the area of Christina Hill Road and Lake Mansfield Road. The Sheffield K-9 unit was eventually deployed and managed to track down Tyler on Knob Hill Road where he was found hiding under a shed.

Tyler was arrested and taken into custody without further incident. He was held without the right to bail. According to police, he will be arraigned as a fugitive from justice at the Southern Berkshire District Court on Tuesday.
