Stop & Shop Extends Pay Increase For Essential Workers
Stop & Shop, together with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, has announced the extension of its 10 percent pay increase for hourly store associates through July 4th in appreciation of their efforts throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the Berkshires, Stop and Shop has two locations in Pittsfield (Dan Fox Drive and Merrill Road), and one on State Road in North Adams. There is also a location in nearby Canaan, CT.
CBSN Boston reports that The Quincy-based supermarket chain has been paying its essential workers extra since March 20th.
Every supermarket company must follow the lead of Stop & Shop and step up to provide our country’s grocery workers with the good pay and the benefits and protections they need ~ UFCW International President Marc Perrone said in a statement.
The outlet is also reporting that Target is also extending raises through July 4th, paying workers an extra $2 per hour.
