Beloved Family Dog Rescued from A Tuesday Night Fire in Pittsfield

Pittsfield fire crews were dispatched for a reported structure fire at 110 Linden Street just after 7:30 Tuesday night. Multiple units were sent to the scene including 4 engines, a ladder truck, and a command vehicle. Upon their arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the 2nd floor and eves of the two stories structure. There was also moderate fire visible in the rear of the 2nd floor.

All occupants were out of the building pleading for the rescue of the family dog, which was able to be located and taken out of the home safely and without injury. Crews stretched handline to attack the fire and vented the roof. While searching the building and fighting the flames, the dog was found and rescued from under a bed without injury.

An off-duty Lt. acted quickly in helping to get the occupants out of the structure and assisting arriving units with the initial size size-up of the fire. All fire department companies operated safely and efficiently to save a major portion of the home. The home did however sustain fire and heat damage that was confined to the back half of the 2nd-floor apartment and smoke and water damage throughout the two-family structure. Property damage was estimated at about $30,000.

According to the media report, authored by Deputy Chief Neil Myers, there were no injuries as a result of the fire, and firefighters remained on the scene for approximately 2 to 3 hours after the fire had been extinguished.

A call-in Deputy Chief, Engine Co., and Ladder Co provided city coverage for the duration of the incident. Action ALS stood by at the scene and PPD assisted with traffic.

Red Cross and Salvation Army responded to aid the adult male and female occupants, as well as firefighters on the scene. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and remains under investigation by the department’s Investigation Unit.
