Lt. Randy Stein of the Pittsfield Fire Department was my guest on City Talk this past Sunday, as we had our annual Winter Fire Safety discussion. I like to have Lt. Stein on my program each year to talk about the safety hazards that we all need to be aware of during the winter months and of course during the holidays.

If you didn’t have a chance to hear the show when it aired on Sunday morning, please set aside some time, and have a listen to the show here. I have posted the interview in its entirety. The information that we talk about is vitally important for everyone. We cover a wide range of items regarding safety practices for the winter months that could very well help you avoid a fire in your home.

During this nearly 30-minute interview, Lt. Stein addresses these topics and more:

  • Recent fires that have taken place in the City of Pittsfield
  • Potential dangers that can cause fire during the winter months
  • Improper disposal of smoking materials
  • Space Heaters
  • Christmas trees – real vs. artificial
  • Christmas lights
  • Carbon Monoxide and CO Detectors
  • What do you do when a CO detector goes off?
  • Portable generators
  • Chimney’s/Wood stoves
  • Candles – real vs. electric
  • Fire Hydrants
  • Access to your home

Here is the audio from Sunday’s program. It will also likely be repeated at some point over the next few weeks.
