The 131st Fighter Squadron unit of the Massachusetts Air National Guard is scheduled to fly over Main Street in Lenox on today, Memorial Day.

VFW commander, Michael King, who runs the Berkshire Veterans Outreach Center in Pittsfield says four F15 Eagle fighter jets will fly north to south beginning about noon today. The unit is also going to fly over Cheshire.

King told the Berkshire Eagle that the squadron is one of the oldest units in the state and is part of the 104 Fighter Wing at Barnes Air National Guard Base in Westfield.

King says that the flyover is planned every year on Memorial Day, but some years the squadron has had to cancel when called on a last-minute mission.

So, if you hear a roar in the distance and it keeps getting louder, make sure to look up. The fly by happens very quickly.
