Pittsfield officials are urging residents to get a flu shot!  In a post to the City Hall Facebook page, they emphasis the flu is on the way and can carry the same symptoms as Covid-19.  It also mentions that you can have the flu and Covid-19 at the same time.

The post echoes the recommendation of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to get the flu vaccine before seasonal flu viruses begin spreading in the community.

City Hall - City of Pittsfield

Did you know that some of the symptoms of flu and COVID-19 are very similar. Testing may be needed to help confirm a diagnosis.

Both COVID-19 and flu can have varying degrees of signs and symptoms, ranging from no symptoms to severe symptoms. Common symptoms that COVID-19 and flu share include: fever or feeling feverish/chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle pain or body aches, and headache. Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.

The reason for emphasizing the importance of getting the flu vaccine is that you can actually have the flu and COVID at the same time. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends getting a flu vaccine before seasonal flu viruses begin spreading in a community.
