Detectives from the Pittsfield Police Department are investigating reports of gunshots fired in the area of Grove Street yesterday afternoon. No injuries or property damage were reported, but shell casings were discovered at the scene.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that Pittsfield's ShotSpotter system detected a number of shots fired near 71 Grove St. at 3:28 p.m. Monday, according to police Sgt. Jacob Barbour. Barbour said the incident is under investigation by the detective bureau, led by police Lt. John Soules.

Earlier on that day, a resident who lives on nearby Lincoln Street told The Eagle that he found what looked to him like shell casings from a rifle lying in the road and reported them to the police.

According to Sgt. Nicholas DeSantis PPD came and picked up 21 shell casings found in the several blocks starting at Curtis and Brown streets to Lincoln and Cherry streets, however, they looked like they were older and aged. Because there had been no recent ShotSpotter activations or reports of gunshots from neighbors, there were no indications where the shells had come from.
