Pittsfield's Inaugural Ceremony Moves To Ensure Safe Gathering

The City of Pittsfield's Inaugural Ceremony, which is traditionally held in City Council Chambers at City Hall, is being moved to an alternate location when it is held on January 3rd.

This year's ceremony, which will see the oath of office administered to the Pittsfield City Council, Pittsfield School Committee, and City Clerk, will be moved from its usual 70 Allen Street location to the Robert Boland Theater at Berkshire Community College on West Street in Pittsfield.

The change of venue was made with safety in mind...

Pittsfield's Director of Administrative Services/Public Information Officer, Roberta McCulloch-Dews told the Berkshire News Network that the change of venue "allows for more space to accommodate a safe gathering."

The Inaugural ceremony is scheduled to take place, one week from today, on Monday, January 3rd beginning at 10:00 AM.

Those who will be sworn into office on Monday include:

At-Large City Councilors: Peter Marchetti, Peter White, Earl Persip III, and newcomer, Karen Kalinowski, who supplanted Yuki Cohen for the fourth At-Large seat.

Ward Councilors: Kenneth Warren (Ward 1), Charles Kronick (Ward 2), Kevin Sherman (Ward 3), James Conant (Ward 4), Patrick Kavey (Ward 5), Dina Guiel Lampiasi (Ward 6), Anthony Maffuccio (Ward 7).

School Committee: William Cameron, Mark Brazeau, Alison McGee, Daniel Elias, former Pittsfield Mayor Sarah Hathaway, and Vicky Smith.

City Clerk: Michele Benjamin.

The Robert Boland Theater has over 500 seats, which is certainly more than the City Council Chambers at City Hall can hold. The theater, as such, is a good choice as it would allow for proper social distancing, amid the latest spike in coronavirus cases due to the new Omicron variant.
