Police in Pittsfield are investigating shots being fired early Sunday morning outside Jae's #7 restaurant on Winter Street.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that officers responded around 1 AM to the area for a ShotSpotter activation that reported eight rounds being fired.

Police Lt. Jeffrey Bradford says he believed a Halloween party at the restaurant was ending at the time of the incident.

There were no reported injuries. Bradford said that Crime Scene Services responded and collected the shell casings. The incident is under investigation.

How does a Shot Spotter work?
The ShotSpotter system works through sensors attached to buildings and lampposts throughout Bridgeport. Highly-specialized software constantly analyzes audio signals for potential gunshots, filtering out ambient background noise.
