For over a decade PortSmitt's Lakeway Restaurant has been a favorite of Berkshire County residents, a place people enjoyed good food and drinks, popular trivia nights and live entertainment. Yesterday the Pecks Rd. eatery announced they'd be closing their doors permanently at the end of the month.
Citing the impact that COVID-19 has had on their business the Porter Family made the announcement via Facebook, letting patrons know the door will officially close this Saturday, Oct. 31.
"It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the closing of PortSmitt's Lakeway Restaurant. It is hard to believe that it has been a decade since our doors first opened and what a wild ride it has been. Countless hours spent, some blood, sweat and tears shed, and A LOT of heart and soul was put into making this dream a reality. This was an extremely tough decision but due to the impact of Covid-19 on the restaurant industry, we are unable to keep moving forward.
To our Loyal Patrons and Team: Words will never be able to truly express how much you mean to us. You have become our extended family and we are eternally grateful for your continued support over the years. We have created so many memories within these walls that we hold near and dear to our hearts. Please know that this was not an easy decision for our family to make and we hope that you can find it in your hearts to understand. We want you to look back and remember Sundays spent with The Big Man cooking fresh fish and venison for friends and family alike, the jammin' Friday nights with the best local musicians, the celebrations, the laughs, the tears and the lifelong friends that we have gained along the way - ALL OF YOU! PortSmitt's would not be what it is without you, a hometown bar where everybody truly does know your name and a safe haven for our family. We thank you and we love you! This is not "Goodbye", it is "See You Later".
To our Owner and Mom (She would kill us if she knew we were including this!): Five years ago you were dealt some of life's toughest cards. You lost your husband, your best friend, your life partner and were left to carry out this dream alone. Most people in your shoes would walk away but you faced one of life's biggest challenges head on. "Porters never give up" was Dad's motto and you are the epitome of this. Even through all of the struggles, you kept pushing forward. We look at you and see strength. We see resilience. We see one FABULOUS woman that is an inspiration to all of us. The Big Man is so proud. Every inch of this place is filled with his presence, you can feel the love in the House that Chris Built. The house that YOU kept alive! Please don't lose sight of that. We love you to the moon and back!
Please stop in this week to help us close this chapter the only way that we know how, with a celebration of a wonderful decade! Our last day of business will be Saturday, October 31, 2020."
Portsmitt's is the latest in a string of Berkshire County restaurants that have closed under the strain of the pandemic including The Rainbow Restaurant, Sen Sushi and recently, Flavours of Malaysia.
Portsmitt's will be open tomorrow through Friday 4pm to 9pm and Saturday from 11:30am to 9 pm.
