Members of the Board of Health in the city of Pittsfield approved a new mask "directive" during their Wednesday night meeting.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that the new directive which will require people to wear masks inside all indoor public spaces in Pittsfield will go into effect Monday

Members of the Board of Health unanimously voted to ramp up the city's marking requirements after a presentation at the board’s meeting Wednesday meeting.

Currently, Pittsfield only has an indoor mask advisory in place. According to the Berkshire Eagle, that the city's current Health Department Director Andy Cambi told the board the following:

The major difference between the directive and advisory is that if business owners or individuals refuse to follow the masking requirements, the Board of Health could issue fines. If the board is seeing widespread issues with compliance, then it could follow up with a mandate.

The board will continue to monitor coronavirus case data monthly in order to decide when to end the requirement.

Adams, Lee, Lenox, Stockbridge, are the only other municipalities in Berkshire County that currently have mask mandates or directives, while Williamstown and Great Barrington have advisories in place.
