On June 17th, 2020 at 8:01pm, the Pittsfield Fire Department responded to 109 Dewey Ave for reported building fire.

Dispatch advised that a passerby reported flames coming from roof area. Upon arrival firefighters found smoke coming from both gable ends of the building and residents evacuating. Engine 3 with assistance from Engine 1 found access to the attic and extinguished the bulk of the fire with 2 water extinguishers.

Tower 2 and Engine 5 laddered the building and assisted with stretching a handline to extinguish the remainder of the fire. Crew completed overhaul of the 2nd floor bedroom ceiling to completely control the remaining hot spots and ventilated the structure.

Pittsfield Fire Department Investigators responded to investigate the cause of the fire. County Ambulance stood by and Pittsfield Police secured the street.

Red Cross and Salvation Army were contacted to assist occupants with alternate housing. Two occupants and child home were home at time of fire. One adult received minor burns to hands and was transported to Berkshire Medical Center by County Ambulance.

According to a release from the department, this was the 3rd building fire of the day for on duty crews following a small deck fire on Dickinson Ave at 12:37pm and an oven fire at 16 Taylor St at 6:03pm.
