PITTSFIELD, Mass. (March 15, 2020) – In alignment with Gov. Charlie Baker’s new orders, which extended the non-essential business emergency order and guidance for Executive Branch employees until May 4, City of Pittsfield municipal offices and buildings will remain closed to the public and nonemergency personnel until May 4.

Existing modified staffing schedules for city departments will remain in place until this date. Employees exempted from this policy change include Police, Fire, Health, selected Department of Public Services and Public Utilities employees, and employees essential to the city’s COVID-19 response team.

Mayor Linda Tyer said the governor’s orders demonstrate the necessity for ongoing vigilance in the fight to stop the spread of COVID-19 throughout the Commonwealth.

“We are still deep into the ‘slowing the spread’ phase. We can’t afford to let our guard down in any way. All of these measures are intended to keep our entire community healthy. It also ensures that our hospital can safely care for COVID-19 patients who require hospitalization,” said Mayor Tyer.

Here are some important points to keep in mind:

  • Unless there are emergency issues related to COVID-19, Pittsfield boards and commissions will resume business activity after May 4.
  •  Special event permit applications will not be accepted until May 15 and only for events scheduled to take place after July 1.
  • Pittsfield Public Schools remain closed through May 4.

Community members should continue to visit the city’s website, www.cityofpittsfield.org, to manage their business needs. A secure drop box is now installed at the rear of City Hall and can be used for all correspondence that would normally need to be dropped off.

Individuals with specific questions for city departments should utilize the City Hall directory, 413-449-5600, during the hours of 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for assistance.
